head shot of Jason Ellis
Neurosurgeon
Lenox Hill Hospital

Director, Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery
Lenox Hill Hospital

Associate Professor, Neurosurgery
Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell

Dr. Ellis is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon and is the Director of Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. He has a subspecialty interest in treating patients with complex brain and spinal cord vascular lesions as well as skull base tumors. He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors at Harvard University prior to enrolling in the MD program at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. As a medical student, Dr. Ellis began cultivating an interest in brain tumor biology and was awarded a Doris Duke Research Fellowship in this field.

After medical school, he began his neurosurgical training at the Neurological Institute of New York/Columbia University Medical Center. His early postdoctoral research focused on developing growth factor-induced murine models of brain and spinal cord tumors. Dr. Ellis has gone on to forge an independent research path with diverse basic and clinical science interests in the fields of brain tumor and cerebrovascular biology. Through collaborative efforts, his current research work focuses on the development of translational methods for improving intra-arterial drug delivery to the nervous system.

As a cerebrovascular neurosurgery fellow at Emory University Hospital, he obtained special training in the microsurgical treatment of patients with brain aneurysms, vascular malformations of the brain and spine, carotid disease, and skull base tumors. Dr. Ellis enjoys scientific writing and has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, books and various web-based media. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on topics of basic research, clinical management and other academic interests.
