The distinction from Healthgrades positions Lenox Hill as the only NYC hospital within the top 1% of facilities nationwide

Lenox Hill Hospital has been named among the 50 Best hospitals in the U.S. for 2023, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading marketplace connecting doctors and patients. This recognition places the medical center within the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance across the most common conditions and procedures. This is the second consecutive year Lenox Hill has been named among America’s 50 Best, making it the only hospital in New York City to achieve this feat. The facility also earned New York state rankings for four specialties. It was placed at No. 2 for coronary intervention, No. 3 for critical care, No. 4 for gastrointestinal care and No. 5 for cardiology.

“This extraordinary accomplishment is the result of the exceptional care Lenox Hill doctors, nurses and staff provide to our patients,” said Daniel Baker, MD, executive director of Lenox Hill Hospital. “I am so proud of our hardworking employees, and I congratulate all those who made this achievement possible.”

Hospitals that are among America’s 50 Best demonstrate statistically superior outcomes. If all hospitals performed similarly to these facilities, over 150,000 lives could potentially have been saved*. For instance, patients treated for heart failure at one of the 50 best, on average, have a 22.8% lower risk of dying than if they were treated at a hospital that did not receive the award*. Hospitals where clinical specialties rank within the top five are also providing patients with consistently better-than-expected outcomes. Patients treated at hospitals receiving a state ranking for coronary intervention, on average, have a 45.5% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in a hospital that did not receive a state ranking in coronary intervention*.  While patients treated at hospitals receiving a state ranking for critical care, on average, have a 27.1% lower risk of dying than if they were treated in a hospital that did not receive a state ranking in critical care.*

“We’re proud to recognize Lenox Hill Hospital as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for 2023,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “As one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals, Lenox Hill Hospital consistently delivers better-than-expected outcomes for the patients in their community and is setting a high national standard for clinical excellence.”
