Newsweek rated the Manhattan hospital in three clinical specialties: neurosurgery, orthopedics and cardiology

Lenox Hill Hospital has been ranked among the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” for 2022 in neurosurgery (28), orthopedics (57) and cardiology (167) by Newsweek, a premier global news magazine. The three clinical specialties received top honors not only for their expertise in treating complex cases but also for being at the forefront of scientific development. The list includes international state-of-the-art medical facilities from 27 countries.

Newsweek, in a partnership with the global research firm Statista, based its annual peer-reviewed ratings on:

  • The recommendations of more than 40,000 medical experts in more than 20 countries
  • Results from patient surveys
  • Medical key performance indicators (KPIs) on hospitals

Industry leaders, ranging from doctors to hospital managers, were asked to submit hospital recommendations based on their area of expertise, which were then tabulated and validated by an international board of renowned medical experts. The rankings feature the top 125 hospitals in the fields of neurosurgery and orthopedics and the top 250 hospitals for cardiology.

“These impressive ratings from Newsweek further highlight the fact that Lenox Hill Hospital continues to excel as a multidisciplinary hospital,” said Mark Schiffer, MD, executive director of Lenox Hill Hospital. “I congratulate and thank these departments for their dedication and commitment to our patients’ health and well-being.”

The three specialties recognized by Newsweek also received high ratings from U.S. News and World Report. The leading consumer report publication rated Lenox Hill Hospital for neurosurgery (23rd best in the nation), orthopedics (25), and cardiology and heart surgery (28). Other rated areas included ear, nose and throat (27), gynecology (31), diabetes and endocrinology (38) and geriatrics (39). Overall, Lenox Hill was ranked fourth in New York State.

In addition, Lenox Hill’s cardiothoracic program recently received three-star ratings from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for superior outcomes in two complex heart procedures: isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and isolated mitral valve replacement and repair (MVRR).

This year, Healthgrades recognized Lenox Hill as one of 100 best hospitals in the U.S. for cardiac care and coronary intervention. They also placed the medical center within the top 1% of hospitals in the nation for clinical care quality and within the top 5% of all U.S. hospitals for patient safety for 2022.
