These funds bring the hospital auxiliary's total contribution to $900,000 for the project

North Shore University Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit is one step closer to completing planned renovations thanks to the hospital’s auxiliary, which presented a check for $225,000 to hospital administrators. To date, the auxiliary has raised $900,000 for the renovation of three NICU nurseries and its family room — phase two of the project — and has pledged to raise an additional $1.1 million by 2031.

“The auxiliary is proud of how hard we worked on our fundraisers this year, and we so appreciate the support of our generous donors,” said Lori Ballen, the auxiliary’s president for the past eight years. “We know the great impact these funds will have on our tiniest patients and their families.”

Funds raised this year came from several sources: a car raffle, the Mother’s Day flower sale, a night out hosted by an NSUH doctor and donations.

“The continued support of our auxiliary is beyond appreciated, especially from our team members, patients, and families in the NICU,” said Jon Sendach, senior vice president, deputy market president, Northwell Central Market, and president, North Shore University Hospital. “These added funds to the existing pledge for phase two of the NICU renovation come from dedicated fundraising efforts.”

The auxiliary first committed to funding improvements for the NICU in 2016. They raised $2 million for the first phase, the renovation of four NICU nurseries, completed in 2021.

Founded over 70 years ago by doctor’s wives and community members, the auxiliary was formed to raise funds to build NSUH. Today’s 30 members and six officers continue that legacy by fundraising for NSUH improvements. They also recognize nurses, present scholarships, and take immense pride in serving as community ambassadors.
