Plainview Hospital opens state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab

The new facility will expand the hospital's cardiac care capabilities, including monitoring and treatment

Plainview Hospital has announced the opening of its electrophysiology lab, part of the existing $20 million, 8,100-square-foot cardiac catheterization laboratory at the hospital. The electrophysiology lab specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders and is overseen by Dr. Jonathan Willner, director of cardiac electrophysiology at Plainview Hospital.

What is an electrophysiology lab?

An electrophysiology lab allows cardiologists to diagnose and treat arrhythmias, disorders in which the heartbeat undergoes interruptions or changes in pace. These can damage the body over time and increase your risk of serious conditions like heart failure or stroke, so electrophysiological studies can be life-saving.

Plainview's lab offers an expanded range of services, including comprehensive electrophysiological studies, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation, advanced cardiac mapping, ablation procedures, remote monitoring, and follow-up care for implanted devices.

“Our electrophysiology lab at Plainview Hospital provides the highest level of cardiac care to our community,” said Loukas Boutis, MD, chairman of cardiology at Plainview Hospital. “We ensure that our patients receive personalized and cutting-edge treatment to improve their heart health and overall quality of life.”

“We are excited to have opened this state-of-the-art electrophysiology lab at Plainview Hospital, a significant milestone for our institution and the community we serve,” said Kerri Scanlon, RN, FAAN, president of Plainview Hospital.

“This is a significant step forward in providing advanced cardiac care to our community. I’m thrilled to be part of this initiative, which will allow us to offer cutting-edge treatments and improve outcomes for patients with heart rhythm disorders,” said Dr. Willner.

Plainview Hospital’s electrophysiology lab is part of Northwell’s Cardiovascular Institute.
