Cardiac rehabilitation

The comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program, a partnership between Northwell’s Rehabilitation Network and Cardiovascular Institute, includes monitored cardiac rehabilitation for people who are recovering from heart surgery, cardiac stenting, heart attack and even heart transplant.

Most patients enter cardiac rehabilitation within six months after their treatment and participate in 36 program sessions.

The goal of cardiac rehabilitation is to restore the heart while being safely monitored. Education, with the aim of developing a healthy lifestyle and preventing future heart conditions, is also emphasized. Among educational elements offered are nutritional education and counseling, psychological intervention and support groups.

Exercise programs include weight training and aerobic (cardio) exercise. All exercise programs are approved, monitored and supervised by a cardiac rehabilitation team, including a cardiologist, nurse practitioner, exercise physiologists and nutritionists. Staff members are Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)-certified, which enhances their skills in treating patients of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies.

Patients with additional medical conditions will also be monitored as appropriate to maintain their health.

Our representatives are available to schedule your appointment Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.
