Diagnostic vascular procedures

What is a diagnostic vascular procedure?

Diagnostic vascular procedures are used to detect blockages or narrowing of the veins and arteries. These procedures provide critical diagnostic information in the evaluation of a variety of vascular diseases. Experienced vascular technologists perform these diagnostic procedures, and physicians directly supervise and interpret the examinations. Advanced color-flow duplex ultrasound, as well as computerized continuous wave doppler equipment, are utilized.

Types

Diagnostic vascular procedures include:

  • Carotid duplex screening
  • Venous duplex scanning of upper and lower extremities
  • Arterial bypass graft assessment to monitor patency
  • Hemodialysis access scanning
  • Pre-operative vein mapping
  • Arterial duplex scanning to detect aneurysms, pseudoaneurysms and AV fistulas
  • Arterial doppler studies to access arterial insufficiency
  • Embolotherapy
